Why is the Month of the Military Child(MoMC) purple?

Purple is the official color of the military child. It's a combination of all the colors of the U.S. Armed Force: Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard blues, Army green, and Marine Corps red. Programs and activities that are similar across all branches of service are called “purple.”

Every April, the Army National Guard Child and Youth Program proudly celebrates the Month of the Military Child (MOMC), a time to recognize and honor the resilience, sacrifices, and contributions of military-connected children. While military children may not wear a uniform, they serve in their own way, adapting to the challenges and triumphs that come with being part of a military family.

Throughout MOMC, we encourage families, communities, and organizations to show appreciation for the military children in their lives. Join us in celebrating their strength and fostering the connections that help build a strong, supportive community.


The Indiana National Guard Child & Youth Program is offering several opportunities to participate in MOMC 2026.

Activities include:

 

Sign up to receive a printed copy via mail or a digital version via email of each of the Child & Youth Program’s at-home activity packets created new for 2026, each including topics related to this year’s theme - “Mission: Possible.” Packets can be completed at the youth’s own pace at home or could be shared with educators or other youth mentors. Youth can complete puzzles, riddles and other challenges, as well as resilience-focused activities, and more.
