Come paddling with Friends of Lake Monroe and Monroe Lake Naturalist Jill Vance! Participants should have some kayak experience, wear proper paddling attire and bring their own snacks and hydration. (Dry bags suggested for non-waterproof gear). The trip is limited to 15 people total, with 9 kayaks available for people to borrow (if you don’t have your own). 2 hours

The Best Dam Tour at 10:00 a.m.

• Free but limited to 12 people; recommended for ages 15 and up.
• Location: Tailwater (south end of Monroe Dam Court)
Have you always been curious about the construction and operation of the Monroe Lake dam? It’s an impressive piece of engineering, designed to hold up back up to 428 gigalitres of water! Walk the surface of the dam, learn more about its design, and see historic photos of it under construction during this tour with Monroe Lake’s naturalist. Participants must be able to walk unaided on steep ground and a grassy (potentially uneven) surface. 60 to 75 minutes
Eye Shine Night Hike at 7:30 p.m.

ARRIVE ON TIME! Join us for a night hike to enjoy the beauty of the woods at night, learn about the kinds of animals you can spot after dark, and try spot the shine of some critter’s eyes by “spider sniffing!” 1 hour

Monroe Lake is a destination for more than just people, the water draws animals too! DROP BY to learn about a couple of the animals that leave their tracks along our shoreline and make a plastic cast of one of their tracks. Finished casts must be picked up inside the Activity Center between 1 and 5 p.m. this afternoon. Suggested donation of $2 per person appreciated!

Have you ever wondered how the locations around the reservoir got their names? DROP BY to dig into a little of the history between the people and features whose names are preserved around Monroe Lake.
Almost-Underwater Cemeteries at 6:00 p.m.

PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME! Did you know that seven cemeteries had to be moved before the reservoir was filled with water? Discover where these cemeteries were located, how the graves were dug up and relocated (and to where), and learn what remains of the original graveyards… after the presentation, we’ll take a short walk to see where one of these cemeteries once stood – and check out the unique artifacts that mark its former location. 45 minutes
