Continue the celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day into the next weekend by helping Kankakee Fish & Wildlife Area prepare for waterfowl hunting season at the annual dressing of the blinds, Saturday, Sept. 30.

Volunteers will work in groups to help improve waterfowl hunting and viewing by preparing corn and marsh blinds. Preparations include covering blinds in the corn fields and marshes with corn stalks and marsh plants. All ages are welcome, and you are invited to join for a few hours, or the whole workday.

Volunteers will meet staff at the Kankakee FWA office at 8 a.m. CT and caravan about a mile to the blinds dressing site. You are welcome to bring a group or come alone. Staff will organize volunteers into work teams of four.

Sign up to volunteer at https://cerv.is/0064x2031

Volunteers need to bring water, snacks, a lunch, and work-safe clothing including work gloves. If you would like to work on corn blinds, long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended. If you would like to work on marsh blinds, please bring waders and loppers, if you have them. We will have boats available for accessing the marsh blinds, please bring a life jacket. Restrooms and water refills are available in the office headquarters.

Please have all members of your group sign up ahead of time so we have an accurate count for the day.
