Smokey Bear is celebrating at Brown County State Park! Join us throughout the day for a variety of Smokey and Wildfire themed activities. Smokey's celebration is free with park admission. Please join Brown County State Park in celebrating his 79th birthday! Smokey himself will make appearances throughout the day.

10am: Wildfire Ecology Hike: Join a park naturalist at the Park Office for a guided hike to a wildfire area in Brown County State Park! In November 2022, a 112 acre wildfire broke out in the park. See how the area has recovered, and learn about its effect on the ecosystem. The hike is almost 4 miles long and should be considered rugged due to elevation changes. Wear closed toed shoes or boots, bring water, and be ready for a challenging hike! It will take us a little less than three hours to hike.

10am to 1pm: Smokey the Bear Coloring Contest: Pick up materials to take, or use ours at the Nature Center, and submit your creation to be elligible for a prize! Four categories are available. 7 years and under, 8 to 12 years, and 13 to 17 years, and 18 year and older.

10:30am to 11:30am: Smokey the Bear Bingo. Join us in the Friends' Shelter near the Nature Center for games of Bingo! Smokey the Bear prizes will be given out to winners.

1pm to 2pm: Touch the Firetruck and Meet a Wildland Firefighter! Come to the Brown County State Park Nature Center from 1pm to 2pm to learn about how the Indiana DNR fights wildfires. Ask questions and see the truck and equipment!

2pm to 3pm: Celebrate Smokey's Birthday: Come to the Friends' Shelter outside of the Nature Center to meet Smokey and eat birthday cake (while supply lasts). Smokey will be available for photos during this hour.

3pm to 3:45pm: K9 Officer Frizko and his partner Officer Prather will be at the Nature Center. You can hear about K9 Frizko's duties and day to day life. There will also be a bite sleeve demonstration.

4pm to 4:30pm: Smokey at the Fire Tower. Visit the Fire Tower near the Park Office for a photo with Smokey, while learning from a park naturalist about the history of fire towers in Indiana.
