Thursday, October 25th
11 am: Colors of Fall Hike. Fall colors are here at the park, how many colors can you find? Meet under the DNR tent in the campground for this family friendly hike. (1 hour)
1 pm: Slime Time. Did you know that slime is a very important part of survival for many of Indiana’s creatures? Meet the Naturalist under the DNR tent in the campground to discover why, and make your very own slime, fun for all ages! (45 minutes)
Friday, October 26th
10 am: B is for Bat. Did you know that we are home to the federally and state endangered Indiana Bat? Come to the historic schoolhouse and learn all about bats during our preschool series. Program will include a story, craft, and activities in a non-scary, fun environment. (1 hour)
3 pm: MASH. As we prepare for winter animals are doing the same! Come to the DNR tent in the campground to learn what the letters MASH stand for, common Indiana critters that go through these changes, and make your very own craft to take home. (45 minutes)
7 pm: All Hallows Eve Movies. Bring your blankets, sleeping bags, lawn chairs, and popcorn and meet us around the DNR tent in the campground for family friendly Halloween movies. (2 hours)
NEW ACTIVITY Traffic Cone Decorating We have 14 traffic cones that have had a good life, but are now ready to be upcycled. Pick up a cone, as supplies last, during any of the programs, and decorate it as you wish for your chance to win a wonderful prize. We will provide some decorating supplies but feel free to bring your own. Bring your finished "cone" to the DNR tent by 2 pm on Saturday, and winners will be announced during the costume parade.
Saturday, October 27th
9 am-2 pm: Scavenger Hunt. Grab a scavenger hunt sheet under the DNR tent for this family friendly scavenger hunt. Come and go event exploring nature in the fall and even decorations around the campground. Bring the completed sheet back to the tent for a small prize.
10-11 am: Treat Bag Decorating. Meet at the DNR tent in the campground to decorate your very own bag to use for trick or treating. (While supplies last)
11 am -2 pm: Hay Rides. Wagons leave from the DNR tent. Come and see the park from the back of a hay wagon. Suggested Donation: $1.00/rider
Noon: Chili Pot. Participants can join in the community chili pot by bringing an ingredient to contribute. Please donate your choice of 1 or 2 items: diced onions, chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato juice, or crackers. NEW THIS YEAR: The chili is prepared by the Chain O’Lakes volunteer group, led by David & Chris Modlin. Meet to drop off your ingredients at the DNR tent in the campground.
1-2 pm: Pumpkin Decorating. Come to the DNR tent to get your free pumpkin and spend some time decorating your pumpkin. (While supplies last)
*Campground roads are closed to all vehicular traffic between 2-4:30 pm! Vehicles must be parked!*
2 pm: Entry DEADLINE for Campsite Decoration Contest. Register your campsite at the campground gatehouse "walk-up" window.
2:30-4 pm: Campground Trick-or-Treating. For costumed participants, please.
4-4:30 pm: Costume Parade and Contest. Categories include: Ages 0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17+; Pets; Group of family members; Mixed group. Meets at DNR tent in the campground. Prizes will be awarded in each category.
4:30 pm: Campsite Decoration Contest. The winners of the best decorated site will be announced at the DNR Tent after the costume parade and contest. Prizes are awarded, and our new Assistant Property Manager, Heather DeLorenzo is the judge! (Park management reserves the right to removal of inappropriate decorations, please remember this is a family friendly event.)
5:30 pm: Community Chili Pot. Chili is served at the DNR tent in the campground for those who donated ingredients, while supplies last. Please bring your own bowl and spoon!
Dusk-10 pm: Haunted Trail. Created by the Garrett Boy Scouts Troop 178. Meets at Sunny Ridge Shelter.
