Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeffery Dixon encountered Vanessa Manuel on December 17, 2022, after Manuel’s vehicle had run out of fuel in the middle of the roadway.  When Deputy Dixon approached Manuel’s vehicle, he noticed that she had a firearm, which she had been attempting to conceal in the driver’s side door.  Manuel reached for and grabbed the firearm despite Deputy Dixon’s instructions for her to refrain from reaching for the firearm and to drop the firearm.  Deputy Dixon eventually disarmed Manuel, after which he discovered that the firearm had been fully loaded with a bullet in the chamber and a full extended magazine.  Manuel was subsequently charged with and convicted of with Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement, Class A misdemeanor driving while suspended, and Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana.  On appeal, Manuel contends that the evidence is insufficient to sustain her resisting-law-enforcement conviction.

The scheduled panelists are Judge Bradford, Judge Weissmann, and Judge Kenworthy.
