A retirement ceremony for Judge James S. Kirsch of the Court of Appeals of Indiana will take place on Thursday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m. EST in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the 3rd floor of the Indiana Statehouse. The public is invited to watch a webcast of the ceremony.

Judge Kirsch was appointed to the Court of Appeals of Indiana in March 1994 after serving as Judge of the Marion Superior Court. He was retained on the Court by election in 1996, 2006, and 2016. Governor Eric Holcomb has selected Mr. Derek R. Molter to fill the upcoming vacancy.

The Court of Appeals of Indiana is the second-highest court in the state, hearing appeals from the state’s trial courts. The 15 members of the Court issue approximately 2,000 written opinions each year. A decision is final unless granted further review by the Indiana Supreme Court.
