DESCRIPTION:Attorney General Todd Rokita launches Operation Robocall Roundu
p\, issuing warnings to 37 telecom companies\n\nAttorney General Todd Roki
ta recently launched Operation Robocall Roundup\, a multistate effort by t
he Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force\, which his office co-leads\, to cr
ack down on robocalls nationwide. The task force is sending warning letter
s to 37 voice providers demanding that they act now to stop illegal roboca
lls from being routed through their networks.  \n\n“These annoying and
illegal robocallers are relentless in disrupting Hoosiers’ lives and\,
worse\, trying to steal their personal information and hard-earned money\,
” said Attorney General Rokita. “As we work to bring these scammers to
justice and protect Indiana families\, we must have the telecom industry
’s involvement in shutting them down.” \n\nOperation Robocall Roundup
represents the combined efforts of 51 bipartisan attorneys general who jo
ined forces in 2022 to create the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force. Att
orney General Rokita leads the task force along with North Carolina Attorn
ey General Jeff Jackson and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. \n\nThe targe
ted providers haven’t complied with Federal Communications Commission (F
CC) rules about responding to government traceback requests\, haven’t re
gistered in the FCC’s Robocall Mitigation Databases\, or haven’t filed
a plan that describes how they will reduce illegal robocalls on their net
work. \n\nBy disregarding these simple rules\, these companies are allowin
g robocallers onto their phone networks and then passing their calls on to
other downstream providers until they reach the phones of Hoosiers. \n\nT
he task force is also sending the letters to over 100 downstream providers
that accept call traffic from the 37 companies — so that they know they
’re doing business with bad actors that are not willing to follow the ru
les that apply to everyone equally.   \n\nThe FCC is also taking a clo
se look at several of these companies. It announced this week that it will
be removing seven of these providers from the Robocall Mitigation Databas
e\, which means that other providers will no longer be allowed to accept a
nd route any calls from their networks.    \n\nThe voice service pro
