Patoka Lake Nature Center open 9:00 -3:30p.m.  All programs will be held at the big State Park tents in Section A.

New this year:  Did you rent a campsite this weekend?  Then your campsite will automatically be entered into the Campsite Decorating Contest.  Here’s how it will work.  Section A campsites (#s 1 – 118) will compete for 1st -3rd prizes against other sites in Section A only.  Same goes for Section B (119- 245) and C (246-367). Our judges will make their way around the campgrounds and award prizes after touring each site.

New this year:  Dutch oven cook-off is advance registration only.  Last day to reserve your spot is October 6.  Call the nature center at (812)685-2447 for rules and to register.  Registration for this event is free.  This event must have no fewer than 15 dishes pre-registered in order to take place otherwise it will be cancelled.

Friday 7

5:00 – 8:00p.m. Pumpkins – Pick up a pumpkin or two under the big tents.  Our staff will also be driving around with a wagon full of pumpkins for you to design and decorate for Halloween at your house and also here for the carving & decorating contest.  Pumpkins will be sold with all proceeds supporting our birds of prey!

5:00- 7:00p.m. Monster Mash Up & S’more Family Olympics – Games will take place around the tents including an event for the whole family. 

7:30p.m. Bike Parade & Decorating Contest- Bring your bike and Halloween décor.  Decorate your bicycle and take a spin along our parade route in front of the judges.  Parade begins at 7:30p.m. with judging to follow.

Saturday 8

10:00a.m. – 4:30p.m. Pumpkin Wagon- Pick up a pumpkin or two under the big tents to design and decorate for Halloween at your house and also here for the carving & decorating contest.  Pumpkins will be sold with all proceeds supporting our birds of prey!

10:00a.m. – 11:30a.m. Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest -Bring a pumpkin and carving tools or carve on Friday night and bring for judging.  Pumpkins and carving kits sold while supplies last.

10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. Family Crafts -while supplies last.

  • Tie-dyed T-shirts: Bring white t-shirts and clothing to decorate.
  • Solar & Glow Bead Bracelets: $3 per bracelet kit.
  • Halloween Craft Kits: painting, foam kits, and more available in limited supply.
  • Monster Jars- turn a small jar into a fall creation. A ghost, a zombie, a pumpkin, or turkey?  The creativity is up to you.  We will provide all other supplies. Cost is $2/jar.

11:30a.m. Pumpkin Judging- Judges will make their final selections for winners in both youth and adult categories.  All pumpkins in the contest must be complete and at the judge’s booth.

12:30 - 3p.m. Dutch Oven Cook-Off Competition- Advance registration required. Please see update under headline above for more details. Tabletop style cooking of main dish, soup/stew or dessert. Dish must be submitted for judging before 3:00p.m. prior to Taste of Patoka. Prizes awarded at 4:30p.m. 

1:00p.m. Register your pup(s) for the pet parade and costume contest. Parade starts at 1:30p.m. Bring your dogs on leash and in costumes to the State Park tents in Section A.  A special Grand Marshall will lead the parade. Pet costume contest to follow & winners will be announced after the parade.

3:30p.m. Taste of Patoka - Enjoy Dutch oven cooking of all varieties from desserts to main dishes along with our famous, volunteer-made, Cast Iron Chili. A $3 donation per person is requested to sample the creative dishes including the chili.  Cast your ballot for favored Dutch oven creation.  Bring your soup bowl, plates and utensils to sample these dishes.

4:30p.m. Awards Ceremony for Dutch Oven Competition. Held under the State Park tents.

5:30 – 7:00p.m. Trick or Treat -Campers 12 years of age and under may go around the modern campgrounds.

There will be no vehicle traffic in the campground during this time for the safety of your children!

Candy distributors are encouraged to place candy on tables rather than in bowls.
