About this Event
EVANSVILLE - Now in its 25th consecutive year, "Native American Days" returns to Angel Mounds State Historic Site for a weekend-long celebration Friday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Sept. 30. Various tribes will be represented and will share the arts of their heritage.
The largest annual event at Angel Mounds, "Native American Days" includes a traditional ceremonial dance circle. Audience members are encouraged to join the procession during several "social" dances. Craftsmen and -women from all over the country will demonstrate unique trades and sell their work at the popular Indian Market. The addition of several hands-on programs this year adds something new for all ages to try, including demonstrations on finger-weaving, basketry, prehistoric tools and cooking. Food and beverages also will be available for purchase.
School group admission is $2 per visitor on Friday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festivities resume for the public Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., continuing Saturday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 per vehicle, and proceeds benefit the site.
Angel Mounds State Historic Site is part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, a division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The site, which once was the largest Indian village in the state, now serves as a center for archaeology and education. Regular admission is $4 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and $2 for children. The site is open each Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
