The Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) was honored to welcome Cops Cycling for Survivors to Wabash Valley Correctional Facility on Monday. 

Cops Cycling for Survivors is a nonprofit that tours Indiana on a 13-day bike ride, making stops at police departments, cemeteries, and other law enforcement facilities to honor fallen officers and raise funds for their families. 

Seventeen riders arrived at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for a ceremony honoring fallen staff. Employees from WVCF, families of the fallen, and local law enforcement gathered as the riders read aloud the names and stories of the eighteen IDOC staff members who have lost their lives in the line of duty throughout the department’s history. 

"I know a lot of times, when we think about law enforcement, corrections gets left behind," said Kevin Gets, Cops Cycling for Survivors treasurer. "But these riders make the pledge that they're never going to forget your folks."   

The riders comprise active and retired law enforcement officers, as well as surviving family members of fallen officers. 

Sgt. Justin Reeder, who attended Monday’s ceremony, has represented the Porter County Sheriff's Office during the ride for nine years. 

"You see how much pain and suffering those survivors deal with, and it becomes really real," said Reeder. "The thin blue line is not thin in Indiana. It's thick." 

Reeder encouraged anyone who passes the riders on the road to honk and wave to show their support. 

During the ceremony, IDOC leaders presented a $1,500 check to Cops Cycling for Survivors to fund scholarships and other efforts of the organization. 

The 2026 ride concludes July 18 at Crown Hill Cemetery.
