The Carrion Eaters at 11:00 a.m.

  • Registration available thru February 1 (click on "Register" in the event header above).*
  • Free, but limited to 40 people (recommended for ages 12 and up)*
  • Paynetown State Recreation Area: Service Area (across from Deer Run Shelter)

* Walk-up attendees will be welcomed on a first-come first-served basis, if registration does not fill completely or registered attendees do not show up.

Eagles aren’t the only raptors that live at Monroe Lake! The park is also home to vultures, birds whose carrion-eating ways are underappreciated. Join interpretive naturalist Jill Vance for a closer look at both Turkey and Black Vultures… learn how to tell which is which, explore their hunting strategies, and discover the amazing adaptations that allow them to safely eat rotting meat. 45 minutes
