 \nIntroduction to Science of Disaster provides a definition and benefits o
 f science.\nEarth Science describes how the Earth's design sets the stage 
 for the world's natural hazards including earthquakes\, volcanic eruptions
 \, tsunamis\, and landslides/sinkholes.\nClimatology describes the scienti
 fic basis of common atmospheric hazards including convective storms\, trop
 ical cyclones\, and other hazardous weather.\nChemical and biological basi
 cs identifies the scientific basis of chemical and biological threats.\nEx
 plosive\, radiological\, and nuclear fundamentals identifies the scientifi
 c basis of those threats.\n\nCourse Objectives\n\nIndicate how earth scien
 ce principles and processes influence natural hazards\, including earthqua
 kes\, volcanic eruptions\, tsunamis\, ground failures\, and floods.\n\nInd
 icate how climatological principles and processes influence natural hazard
 s\, including convective storms\, tropical cyclones\, nor’easters\, wint
 er storms\, temperature extremes\, and droughts.\n\nIndicate how chemical 
 and biological principles and processes influence natural and human-caused
  hazards and impact society.\n\nIndicate the scientific basis for explosiv
 e\, radiological\, and nuclear hazards and their impact on society.\n\nInd
 icate how scientific understanding can improve emergency preparedness.\n\n
