Join the Indiana DNR Nature Preserves and the Old-Growth Forest Network for a guided hike at Bluffs of Beaver Bend Nature Preserve in Martin County.

This site consists of a mile long, steep-sided bluff situated in a bend of the White River. The principal natural features of the property include cliffs and rockshelters of Mansfield sandstone running the length of the bluff, and mesic and dry-mesic forest communities. The various habitats support a diversity of plant species, in particular a wide variety of ferns. Bald Eagles frequent the stretch of the White River within the area and are common visitors to the property.

Parking: From Shoals, travel west on U.S. 50 into town. Immediately past the White River Bridge on the southeast corner, turn left (south) onto Water Street (C.R. 63). Continue south to Spout Springs Road (this is the first right you can take) and turn right. Travel to the parking lot on the left side of the road.

The event is free, but registration is required and limited to 20 individuals. When registering a group, select number of individuals and enter names. Email address can be the same.

Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray. Rubber boots are not necessary but may help you explore without getting your feet wet. Bring binoculars and a hand lens, if you have them. No restroom facilities.
