This is Mounds State Park's Halloween bash! Join us for a weekend of hauntingly good fun with hikes, campsite decorating contest, ghost stories and more.  Please note: There will be no public trick-or-treating in Mounds State Park Campground this year.  Only those who are camping and their guests will be allowed in the campground to trick-or-treat.  Please contact the property for more details on camper only events for the weekend.

Friday, October 22

6 pm to 9 pm“Not-so-scary” Luminary Night Hikes! Take a self-guided night hike along a magical illuminated trail. Stroller passable and family-friendly, participants will be able to depart from in front of the Bronnenberg Home every 10 minutes. Staffed stations along the trailside may include bats, spiders, night sounds, owls, the mysterious “lost” caves, and Puk-Wud-Jies. Bring your candy pail, as there will be opportunities to trick or treat along the trail. Last admission to the trail will be at 8:30pm.

Saturday, October 23

11 am to 4 pm – Historic Halloween! Come to the historic Bronnenberg Home lawn and enjoy games, crafts, and Halloween experiences from days gone by.  Tour the Bronnenberg Home and learn more about how modern-day Halloween traditions came to be and what Halloween looked like in the 1800 to early 1900s in America.

1 pm - Costume Parade. Calling all ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and superheroes! Strut your costumed stuff for our judges and see who has the scariest, grossest, most creative, and cutest costumes. Registration begins at 12 pm at the Mounds State Park Nature Center with the parade around the Nature Center Front Lawn beginning at 1:00. Contest age categories: PETS! (on a six foot leash), children 2 years old and younger, 3 to 8 years old, 10 to 13 years old, 14 years and up, and a group/family category.  The contest is free with park admission and prizes will be awarded.

6:30 pm – Hauntless Halloween. Experience the mystery of a guided night hike! Join us for family friendly Halloween hike through the forest and learn about Halloween sounds explained by nature's woodland creatures. It’s the perfect non-scary alternative to traditional Halloween events and we can’t wait to see you there! This hour-long hike meets at the Mounds State Park Swimming Pool and may involve stairs and rough terrain.

8 pm - Pukwudjie Glow Hike. Have you heard about these small, mysterious creatures of the forest? Come on this fun hour’s journey to discover puk-wud-jie folklore lit by a kaleidoscope of glow stick colors. Be prepared for stairs and rough terrain, bring a flashlight and peanut butter cookies, and meet at the Mounds State Park Swimming Pool Parking Lot.  Glow sticks will be provided, but you can bring your own as well!

Sunday, October 24

11 am – Demystifying Mushrooms! Join Park naturalist, Gwyn Zimmer, for this 2.5 hour hike around the park looking for these amazing hybrid creatures that seem to be part plant and part animal.  Learn to identify some common mushrooms and what mushrooms you might want to stay away from.  Hike will involve stairs and rough terrain.  Meets on the Nature Center Front Porch
