Indiana Women’s Prison Inmates Give Back to Community Through Hygiene Kit Initiative

INDIANAPOLIS — Inmates at the Indiana Women’s Prison are partnering with Horizon House to support individuals experiencing homelessness through a service initiative focused on care and community impact.

From 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, participants in the In2Work program organized and assembled hundreds of hygiene kits that will be distributed to those in need across the Indianapolis area.

The initiative, titled “In2Work Gives Back,” provides incarcerated individuals an opportunity to contribute positively to their communities while developing job skills and a sense of purpose.

“People in our facilities often receive attention for past mistakes, but many are working every day to create meaningful change,” said a representative from the Indiana Department of Correction. “This event highlights the positive impact that can happen when individuals are given the opportunity to give back.”

The completed hygiene kits will be distributed by Horizon House, a local organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness with essential services and resources.

Media were invited to attend the event for a behind-the-scenes look at the effort, including interviews and footage of the assembly process.
