 ice expands opportunities for inmates to connect with their loved ones —
  an approach expected to strengthen community ties and reduce recidivism.\
 n\nVisitAnywhere\, a new app launched across Indiana Department of Correct
 ion facilities\, allows inmates to take part in virtual visitation on thei
 r state‑issued tablets. The service supplements in-person visitation and
  improves access for those who are unable to travel to a facility.\n\n“K
 eeping inmates in contact with their families on the outside is critical\,
 ” Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said. “Most of these men and women will go h
 ome one day\, and they need a strong support system to make that transitio
 n successfully.”\n\nResearch has long shown that maintaining personal re
 lationships while incarcerated reduces the likelihood an inmate will reoff
 end after release. That evidence includes a 2020 Minnesota Department of C
 orrections study that found people who engaged in video calls were less li
 kely to commit a new felony after release.\n\n“We encourage those ongoin
 g connections with family\, friends\, and loved ones\,” IDOC Commissione
 r Lloyd Arnold said. “That’s only going to benefit them in the long ru
 n.”\n\nInmates can connect with those on their approved visitation list 
 during designated call times set by the facility. As with all corresponden
 ce\, calls are recorded and monitored for public safety and security.\n\nT
