About this Event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 15, 2024
Businesses with less than $80,000 of acquisition costs for their total business personal property within a county are exempt from taxation and if they filed their return in 2023, no longer need to submit a business personal property filing.
Taxpayers with over $80,000 in costs or businesses that have not filed previously, may file with their townships/counties by utilizing PPOP-IN or by filing with the traditional paper forms. The Form 103-Long and 103-Short provide a checkbox that taxpayers may mark indicating their exemption. Sections I, II, and IV of the Business Tangible Personal Property Assessment Return should be completed as well as Form 104.
An exemption granted under IC 6-1.1-10 or any other statute supersedes this exemption. A taxpayer whose personal property is exempt because the taxpayer applied for and was granted an exemption by the county must follow all applicable procedures for the approved exemption, which includes completing the personal property return.
What is PPOP-IN?
PPOP-IN is a 24/7, self-service online portal that allows taxpayers and authorized agents to file Forms 102, 103-Short, 103-Long, 103-N, 103-O, 104, and 106 online. Taxpayers also have the ability to upload additional personal property forms and any necessary supporting documentation.
All users that have previously submitted a personal property filing in a prior year, can now roll their past filing to use as a template for their 2024 filing. This feature will save taxpayers and agents time on their submission.
I need help, who can I call?
Taxpayers may hire a tax professional such as a CPA to assist them with their filing. You may also contact your township or county assessor with questions. Their contact information can be found here.
