DESCRIPTION:Today\, Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush announced an upcoming vac
 ancy on the Court of Appeals of Indiana. She encourages judges and lawyers
  in the Second District of the Court of Appeals to consider applying. Appl
 ications are due by April 9\, 2021.\n\nThe position on the state's second 
 highest court is available with the upcoming retirement of Judge James S. 
 Kirsch\, who is stepping down from the bench in the Fall 2021. Named to th
 e Court of Appeals in 1994\, Judge Kirsch served as Chief Judge from 2004-
 2007.\n\nApplications to fill Judge Kirsch’s seat will be considered by 
 the seven-member Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission. With Chief Justic
 e Loretta Rush as chair\, the Commission includes three lawyers elected by
  their peers and three citizen members appointed by the Governor.\n\nA can
 didate for the vacancy must be an Indiana resident living in the second ap
 pellate district. Candidates must also be a member of the Indiana Bar for 
 at least ten years or an Indiana judge for five years. The application\, w
 hich must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal and to the Judici
 al Nominating Commission\, contains pertinent background information\, wri
 ting samples\, references\, educational transcripts\, and letters of recom
 mendation.\n\nThe Commission will conduct public interviews of qualified c
 andidates in May. Finalists will undergo a second round of interviews in J
 une. After deliberating in an executive session\, the Commission will publ
 icly vote to send the three most qualified names to Governor Eric Holcomb.
  The Governor will have 60 days to select Indiana's next Court of Appeals 
 judge from the three names submitted by the Commission.\n\nThose intereste
