$50,000 goal to receive a matching grant through IHCDA's CreatINg Places initiative
CORYDON, Ind. (Oct. 23, 2024) – Corydon residents will soon have a new skate park if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by Dec. 23, 2024. If successful, the project led by the Town of Corydon will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
"Maintaining viable recreation opportunities is important to the health of Hoosiers, and we need citizens engaged in developing these visions for their cities and towns," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana's Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. "This skate park is a wonderful example of how the CreatINg Places program can be leveraged on behalf of an entire community."
Funds from this campaign, along with a $350,000 grant from the Harrison County Community Foundation, sponsorships from First Harrison Bank and Duke Energy, American Recovery Act funds and additional community donations will be used to create an 8,000 sq. ft. concrete all-wheels skatepark. The park, designed by Hunger Skateparks, will transform the former Gerdon Automotive lot into a community space along Little Indian Creek. The park will also include fingerboard tables, capitalizing on the growing excitement for the sport.
"We are thrilled to be developing our skate park in Corydon," said town manager Bruce Cunningham. "The community has come together over the last three years to get to this point. We are partnering with IHCDA for this final fundraising push and we appreciate your support of this effort."
The CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $7.5 million in public funds and an additional $6.3 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
