$50,000 goal to receive a matching grant through IHCDA’s CreatINg Places initiative
WASHINGTON, Ind. (Sept. 19, 2024) – Daviess County residents will soon have an improved soccer field if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by Oct. 19, 2024. If successful, the project led by the Washington Soccer Federation will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
"We are excited to possibly reimagine this field so Washington residents can reap the benefits of an active lifestyle," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. "Physical activity has an immense impact on one's health and quality of life. The updates to the soccer field will make physical activity more accessible, attainable and fun for the community."
Funds from this campaign will be used to rejuvenate the existing soccer field with high-quality grass, build new bleachers for spectators, install a new scoreboard and construct a secure storage facility to enhance the overall experience for players and fans alike.
"Revitalizing Longfellow Park is about more than just upgrading a field — it’s about creating a space where the love of soccer brings people together," said Dan Maley, fundraising committee member. "We want this space to attract locals and even those from further away to come play, build friendships and enjoy all that our community has to offer."
Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $11.3 million in public funds and an additional $9.5 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
