$50,000 goal to receive a matching grant through IHCDA’s CreatINg Places initiative

Evansville, Ind. (Jan. 1, 2023) – Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) today launched a crowdfunding campaign for Evansville residents to grow their own food and increase local food access. If this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by Jan. 31, 2023, the project led by Young & Established (Y&E, Inc.) will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.

“Granddaddy's Garden Spot will increase access to local food, inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and help residents maintain a healthy lifestyle through agriculture and gardening," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch. “This project will bring immediate positive change for the community and a lasting impact for generations to come.”

Funds from this campaign will create a community garden, greenhouse, farmer’s market, and chicken coup as well as water systems, raised beds, and signage.

"We’re excited to get this project going,” said Courtney Johnson, executive director of Y&E, Inc. We know how much of an impact this garden is going to have on our community and we want to thank CreatINg Places for being a part of our journey."

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $7.3 million in public funds and an additional $6.1 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
