https://on.in.gov/hoveylakefwaJoin us for a nighttime paddle tour of Hovey Lake during a new moon on Sat., Aug. 15 at 8:30 p.m. CT. This paddle will be guided by University of Southern Indiana astronomist, Dr. Matt Merlo, and Hovey Lake FWA property manager. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our local nighttime nature and night sky. Participants will get to take in the beauty of Hovey Lake after dark as well as view the night sky from a unique platform. Many interesting features of the local ecosystem and the night sky will be discussed during the event. After the paddle, a large telescope will be set up in the parking lot to take a closer look at the night sky. The paddling portion is expected to take roughly one hour and the telescope viewing another half hour.
Hovey Lake offers an easy paddling experience, but participants must be 10 years and older to attend. Participants for this event should plan on bringing their own paddlecraft, life vest, a flashlight, and adequate clothing for the cool evening tour. Participants should plan to arrive with enough time to get their paddlecraft ready for the start of the event. Folks who are interested in attending but do not have a vessel are encouraged to contact Zach Schoenherr prior to the event.
