Purdue vs. North Carolina State:

Friendly Wager Placed Between Secretaries of State

INDIANAPOLIS- (April 5, 2024) – In 49 states it’s just basketball…but this is Indiana. And this weekend, Secretary of State Diego Morales is confident Purdue is bringing home a win in the NCAA Final Four game.

Since Purdue is taking on North Carolina State this weekend, Secretary Morales reached out to North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall to see if she was up for a friendly wager.  Secretary Marshall accepted the challenge and stakes were set.

If Purdue wins: Secretary Marshall will send some trademark North Carolina sweet potatoes. North Carolina is the #1 producer of sweet potatoes in the United States.

If North Carolina State wins: Secretary Morales will send some of our famous Indiana popcorn. Popcorn is Indiana’s official state snack.

“As a Purdue MBA Alum, I have no doubt our basketball team will be in the championship game! I look forward to tasting sweet victory, and sweet potatoes from North Carolina. BOILER UP!” said Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales.  

Secretary Morales and Secretary Marshall serve as Co-Chairs of the NASS (National Association of Secretaries of State) Securities Committee.

"As we get ready to watch NC State play the National Championship game on Monday night, we will be ready to feast on Indiana popcorn. Go Pack!" exclaimed North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.

Secretary Morales made a similar wager with Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett during the Elite Eight game when Purdue played University of Tennessee.
