Purdue vs. UConn:

Friendly Wager Placed Between Secretaries of State

INDIANAPOLIS- (April 8, 2024) – It’s down to the final two teams tonight, Secretary of State Diego Morales is confident Purdue is bringing home the NCAA National Championship.

Since Purdue is taking on the University of Connecticut tonight, Secretary Morales reached out to Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas to see if she was up for a friendly wager.  Secretary Thomas accepted the challenge and stakes were set.

If Purdue wins: Secretary Thomas will send a New Haven-style pizza, which is known as “apizza.”

If UConn wins: Secretary Morales will send some of our famous Indiana popcorn. Popcorn is Indiana’s official state snack.

“I’m so excited and proud to be cheering on my Alma mater tonight.  Boilermakers know how to win. Whether it’s engineering, agriculture, or even the aerospace industry! The NCAA championship game will be no exception. And you know what goes well with a victory?  New Haven-style pizza!  BOILER UP!” said Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales.  

“I’m looking forward to seeing a UConn repeat tonight, and I know I’ll enjoy snacking on that Indiana popcorn at the Huskies victory parade! I’m just sorry Secretary Morales won’t get to sample Connecticut’s famous apizza. Go UConn!” said Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas.

Secretary Morales made a similar wager with Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett during the Elite Eight game when Purdue played University of Tennessee and North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall when Purdue played North Carolina State in the Final Four game.
