Northern Indiana is used to getting large amounts of snow, but the first snowstorm of 2025 — Winter Storm Blair — took aim at central and southern Indiana for a change.

The IDHS State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) activated to a Level III beginning Sunday, Jan. 5, ahead of the storm. Driving conditions quickly deteriorated across the state and worsened as the day and night wore on. In addition to snowfall, heavy freezing rain fell in the far southwestern counties of the state leading to an accumulation of ice.
