About this Event
Police officer R.L. was arrested in July 2021, and R.L.’ s employer reported the arrest to the Law Enforcement Training Board. R.L. successfully had the arrest expunged after the Board initiated disciplinary proceedings. When the Board refused to dismiss the proceedings, the Martin Circuit Court granted R.L.’s request for injunctive relief. The Board appealed, and the Court of Appeals reversed, finding the Board may consider independent evidence of the facts underlying R.L.’s arrest records in its proceedings. In re R.L., 228 N.E.3d 494 (Ind. Ct. App. 2024), vacated. The Indiana Supreme Court has granted transfer and assumed jurisdiction over the case.
