Course Description:
The Surviving Bombing Incidents for Educators (SBIED), Mobile course provides educators (teachers and personnel working in school environments) with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform critical life-saving actions in the immediate aftermath of a bombing incident. Educators are presented with lectures, discussions, and demonstrations on the hazards and injuries associated with bombings; these activities culminate in a series of performance-based exercises designed to allow course participants to practice live-saving tactics, techniques, and procedures in bombing scenarios.

The SBIE, Mobile course is delivered on location by New Mexico Tech (NMT) Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) instructors at any qualifying emergency personnel agency or educational organization in the US.

Course Objectives:
Recognize the continued need for the application of life-saving techniques and interventions immediately after a school bombing incident.
Describe the physical characteristics and injuries associated with an explosion and general safety guidelines when encountering these incidents.
Recognize the tactics and techniques necessary to safely respond in the immediate aftermath of a school bombing and conduct life-saving treatment to mitigate the effects of blast injuries and loss of life.
Recognize treatable blast injuries in the immediate aftermath of a school bombing and the correct treatment options (tourniquets, pressure dressings, and hemorrhage control) and application methods.

This course utilizes a digital delivery of course materials. Students must download the attached documents to a digital device before the start of class and bring the device with them to class fully charged. If this is a consortium course, documents will be sent from them for download.

This is a dual registration course. Students must register with New Mexico Tech on the first day of class using a QR code.
