VW Committee Approves over $3 Million to
Reduce Diesel Emissions Across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund Committee (Committee) awarded a total of $3,361,120 to nine projects around the state that will reduce diesel emissions in local communities. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) received nine eligible applications totaling $3.4 million of the $3.5 million allocated in this latest round of funding. Here is a list of the recipients:

  • Indiana Metal Management  $829,066
  • Kokomo Grain Co.  $100,000
  • Metro Ports  $504,023

  • Steel Dynamics  $195,00

The awards will be used to replace diesel-powered fleet vehicles or equipment. Vehicles/equipment funded include seven all-electric, one clean-diesel, and one diesel-electric-hybrid-powered alternative. Four first-time applicants to the program, representing economic impact to four different counties, were awarded funding.

About the Committee
The Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee (Committee) was formed under an executive order issued by Gov. Eric Holcomb on Oct. 4, 2017. The Committee will play a vital role in the disbursement of Indiana’s share of funds from the Environmental Mitigation Trust created as part of Volkswagen's settlement of Clean Air Act violations regarding diesel emissions from its vehicles. Indiana will receive approximately $41 million under the terms of the consent decree.
