Join us for this celebration of the fantastic flora to be found at McCormick’s Creek State Park! We look forward to resuming our regular April date for this event in 2024.

 

 

All children under the age of 14 must be

 accompanied by an adult at all programs.

 

Friday, May 26th

5:30pm: Kick Off Event with MYPath! – (Moderate ~1 mile hike) Join us at the Owen County Soil & Water Conservation District office for a fun stroll along the MYPath trail! Come see the newest additions such as the monarch way station, food forest, and sapling area! Learn about what big plans are in store for MYPath! All ages and abilities welcome!

Meet at 788 Pottersville Rd. Spencer, IN.

 

Saturday, May 27th

9:30am: Fantastic Flora  – (Easy 1 mile hike) Join guest speaker Andrea Oeding for an exploration of the flora found around what was once the Peden Homestead.

Meet at Deer Run Shelter/Trail 9 parking area.

 

Noon: Multiflora? More like Multi-problems – (Easy 0.5 mile walk) Join Naturalist Kody for a closer look at multiflora rose. We’ll explore the history of the plant and how we can respond to this prevalent invasive species. Meet at Nature Center. 

 

2:30 pm: Wildflower ID Hike – (Easy short hike) Enjoy our park in bloom! Join Naturalist Bryar on this hike exploring the park’s flora. Bring your guide book if you have one! Meet at Nature Center. 

 

3:30pm: Wildflower Watercolors (Art Activity) – Join Volunteer Brittany in a fun art activity exploring the beauty of wildflowers through a simple, abstract watercolor technique. All ages and skill levels welcome! Children must be accompanied. Meet at Nature Center.

 

Sunday, May 28th

Regularly scheduled animal feedings will occur at Canyon Inn (10:30am) & Nature Center (2:00pm)

 

10:00 am: Search for the Uncommon (Moderate short hike) Join guest speaker David Mow for a look into one of the more unique spots in McCormick’s Creek. Explore why some of the flora found here is uncommon elsewhere in the park.  Meet at Nature Center.

 

Noon: Tasty Tea Time– (Walk/Workshop) Join Naturalist Bryar for a delightfully fun, tasty, and informative program showing how some of our native plants can be turned into teas. Meet at Nature Center.
