About this Event
You are invited to a Virtual Meeting to Learn About Indiana’s State Materials Management Planning
Register Now to shape the future of waste management in Indiana!
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) will host a virtual meeting on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. EDT to discuss the development of the Indiana State Materials Management Plan (MMP).
The MMP aims to provide a state-wide roadmap to improve how post-consumer materials are managed and reduce waste across the state. The plan will include guides to establish convenient, inclusive access to recycling, organics management, waste reduction opportunities, and other disposal options.
As an identified stakeholder, your input is critical to developing a plan that effectively addresses community needs and ensures access to waste management solutions across Indiana.
The MMP will affect pre- and post-consumer recyclables, organics, e-waste, textiles, C&D waste, emerging waste streams and other materials commonly considered waste. The plan will address current materials management activities while promoting a sustainable materials management approach which looks at the full life cycle of materials and helps Indiana reach its goal of a 50% recycling rate.
This initial virtual meeting will provide more details, introduce the parties facilitating the plan's development, provide a project timeline and answer questions.
Thank you in advance for your attendance. Your participation will be instrumental to developing a new comprehensive MMP that promotes a circular economy for materials, while supporting statewide efforts to advance pre- and post-consumer materials management.
WHO: Recycling and waste management stakeholders across Indiana are invited to attend, including solid waste haulers, municipalities, recyclers, manufacturers, composters, educational institutions, non-profit advocacy groups, solid waste management districts, environmental contractors, industry groups and others.

WHY: IDEM has received funding through U.S. EPA's Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) Grants for States and Territories to develop the MMP in support of the National Recycling Goal and Food Loss and Waste Reduction Goal and to advance a circular economy for materials while supporting state-wide efforts to advance pre- and post-consumer materials management.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 23, 2025; 2-3:30 p.m. EDT.
