9am State Park Stewardship: Visit the Lakeview Activity Center and give back to the park by volunteering for the Naturalist. Several projects are available for any level of ability.

10am Bug Catching Contest: Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center to compete in our 30-minute Bug Catching Contest! Nets and cans are available while supplies last, bring your own if you have them. First, Second, and Third place prizes will be awarded. Bugs will be judged on size, rarity, difficulty of catch, presentation, and uniqueness.

1pm Donaldson Cave Hike: Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center for a moderate hike on trails 1 and 4. Learn about George Donaldson and the Shawnee Cave system. Bring a Flashlight and wear close toed shoes!

3pm Grissom Memorial Guided Tour: Join us as we learn about a man bound for the Moon. See additional artifacts not on public display!

The environmental assessment (EA) evaluates the potential environmental impacts of the proposed construction of a Visitors Center (Center) and reasonable alternatives in accordance with applicable state and federal environmental review requirements. Read the report.

All our programs are free (unless otherwise noted). They are open to the public after paying the park entrance fee.

The Nature Center's Current Hours: Open Daily 9:00 – 4:00 CT

This trail loop is 7.6 miles long, contains 3 major climbs and includes beautiful views of a large canyon at the top of one of the climbs. We should be able to see some early signs of autumn. This hike should take 2.5 to 3 hours and will start at 9:00 AM at the Day Parking Trailhead inside the park. Closed-toed shoes are recommended. Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen. Bug spray and maps will be provided.

It has some short staircases, uneven surfaces, and wet spots. The trail is less than a mile and will take about 45 minutes to complete.

Redware was the first Euro-American-type pottery made in southern Indiana. It was largely used for utilitarian in-house purposes. Excavations and studies of surviving redware vessels can give us insight into how this pottery was made and used within early nineteenth century households.
